Sim (Matt Chapman) and Bear (Kerri McGuinness) hit the streets of Barcelona, Spain trying on flip-flop sandals, getting kicked out of bikini stores (for filming) and finding the best juice in Europe while searching for their hotel.

COMMUNITY CONNECTION

This dynamic duo pounds the pavement of Barcelona like a deep bass riff looking for the Sonar music festival. Barcelona is the collision of the new with the old. Ancient stone walkways lined with hip clubs. Feats of modern architecture stand beside feats of millennia-old architecture. Couples tango on the cobblestone streets. DJs mix electronic music with electric displays. Barcelona feels alive.

Capturing the vivacity and camaraderie of time spent working in a Thai orphanage.

NETWORK CONNECTION

An incredible short film supposedly compiled with scraps from the cutting room floor; I can’t imagine what the highlight reel must look like. In the town of Phang Nga in southern Thailand, an orphanage houses or employs these character-rich faces. With a definite scratchy, distorted, Tarantino effect layering its entirety, the storyteller makes a beautiful representation of his time aiding this orphanage that would intrigue even the least altruistic viewer. In this video, Thailand and its residents beam.

WHAT/WHERE
Cambodia’s beauty is in the little moments and details.

NETWORK CONNECTION

The people, the temples, the weather, the bustle, the food, and everything else; Cambodia’s beauty is in the effortless intermingling of all it’s powerful moments, captured nicely in this video. A two week experience of this Southeast Asian nation is on display here, highlighting the dripping bounty of the monsoons to the ancient complexes built by elephants. The majority of this footage is evidence that the most striking and compelling element of Cambodia is her people.

When you create vivid memories of your travels, you’re always being challenged and moved by the road. Japan returns to the mind.

NETWORK CONNECTION

Matthew gets conceptual on us, taking beautiful moments observed in Japan and crafting them into dream-like waves he calls memories. Through some jerky editing and hazy effects, this type of documentation is less about showing off what one sees and emphasizing seemingly mundane but ultimately powerful moments that are relived post-trip. Matthew notes a Nathan Miller as the shooter of the film footage, which is interesting to think about how one person can translate someone else’s vision.
