Destination Unknown: The Great Wall
.

WHAT/WHERE
Michael hikes ten kilometers of the Great Wall of China trying to become, what Mao Zedong describes as a “true man.”

COMMUNITY CONNECTION

Hiking China’s Great Wall seems far removed from the tradition of hiking out into the secluded forests and mountains. Trekking along the Great Wall is every bit as scenic and strenuous as most ridgeline backpacking routes. Changing your paradigm of what different forms of travel entail will push the horizons of what is possible and open up new worlds of adventure.

In 2006, my husband and I shared a similar experience. Climbing straight up on the narrow stairs and coming back down was very difficult but you felt the history, the tenacity, the strength & force of China. It brought tears to my eyes then and I can still feel the emotion today.
