In 2008, the world consumed a whole lotta water wrapped in plastic.

NETWORK CONNECTION

With our eyes on the environment this week, it’s important to not forget that little choice we make every day that makes a big difference. Bottled or tap, sir? Crystal Geyser or sink water, madam? Sadly, the entire world doesn’t have strict practice for recycling, and those plastic bottles don’t end up as rafts in the Arctic, helping Polar bears bob peacefully from iceberg to iceberg. Though bottled water does save many a traveler from some mean gastro issues on the road, the bottled water movement isn’t making Mother Earth all that happy.

Matadorian Matt Kepnes shows us how diving the world’s greatest reef is done.

NETWORK CONNECTION

In this webisode from the adventures of Nomadic Matt, Matt takes us to a premier dive destination to show us how it’s done. It could be seriously daunting to tackle the world’s largest reef, but Matt is all about making the world more accessible to those with tight budgets and wanderlust. I take it this is a spot on the globe not to be missed.

The natural rhythms of the Earth can put on quite a show. It can be easy to anthropomorphize such phenomenon as “Mother Natures fury” but the reality is volcanoes, earthquakes, hurricanes…are as impersonal as they are essential.
If you could experience one awesome natural phenomenon first hand, what would it be?

Great books like Alan de Botton’s The Art of Travel show us plane tickets and foreign tongues don’t have to be a part of the traveling equation. Josh leads us through his backyard on a visual journey that abstracts the ordinary into something much more experiential. That’s what great images do. They change our perspective. Test out these macro techniques on your own subject matter, and travel through your ordinary surroundings in a new way.

Adam takes us on a personal experience of Tel Aviv, flip-book/photomotion style. Super cool.

NETWORK CONNECTION

Using dynamic video techniques to capture the ordinary can create extraordinary products, and it’s obvious Adam had a ball realizing this truth. Here he is giving us a glimpse of life in Tel Aviv: the streets, the crowds, the beach, the ambiance. Gotta love what a little innovation and vision can create with raw travel footage.

NETWORK CONNECTION

The Hong Kong skyline is electric, and these lime greens and brilliant purples certainly stylize it away from a familiar sight to a creative vision. Not only does this Chinese region offer stellar imagery but darn good eats and the perfect setting for a semester away from home. Christoph Rehage spent a year walking across China…watch this crazy time lapse of his beard!

NETWORK CONNECTION

It takes heaps of determination and a lot of free time to cross a continent by what Ed Buryn calls the ultimate vagabond expression of travel; on foot, one step at a time. Nearly as hard core is documenting the process day by day, one picture at a time. Ultimately you are left with an unforgettable account of your journey. When you are setting out for adventure, take a clue from Christoph and think outside the box in creating your travel media.

WHAT/WHERE
Over 2500 still photographs squeezed into three and a half minutes…it’s quite a way to see Singapore.

NETWORK CONNECTION

Not just a place to get the hook-up on healthcare, Singapore is a bonafide melting pot, and this footage of Little India and Chinatown, to name a few locales, shows just that. Southeast Asia has an intoxicating mix of cultures to witness , but don’t write off Singapore for being too expensive; it can be done on the cheap like the others.
